Each year around the middle of June, the public land alongside the train tracks outside Kamakura Station are lit up with hundreds of hollyhocks. My Japanese sources tell me the Hollyhock was introduced to Japan from Russia. Who planted them is unknown, but I guess it was a beautification project by the Kamakura City Office.
